If you are starting in the world of freelance, getting a client portfolio is not usually an easy task, and one of the most frequent problems is precisely the relationship with our clients and their respective projects.
Many times, the wrong treatment, the bad organization in the execution of projects or the failed communication, can lead us to break relationships, damage our image or even lose our dignity.
We are going to mention some points to consider when we work on our clients’ projects.
listen and be listened to by your clients
If they have called us to participate in a project, it means that there is a problem to solve and needs to be addressed; It is important to listen to these needs, as well as to respond with our point of view and our proposals for solutions, in an honest way.
🙄 Learn to say NO
Perhaps one of the most difficult points. This can refer to several aspects, for example, a client wants to pay less than your work worths, your time and your effort, when they try to impose a methodology, you don’t like the project, ask for extra tasks, or demand more work than requested. In any case, it is your right to say NO if you don´t feel comfortable with any situation or it isn’t within your terms and conditions.
YOUR CLIENT IS NOT YOUR BOSS
Neither you are the superior of your client, the best way to define the relationship with him is “team”. Both parties work to solve a problem and get benefits from it.
how many projects CAN YOU attend at once?
Carrying several different issues at the same time is usually very tired and very inconvenient, and we can look bad with a client. Plan the time it will take to complete a project and start a new one. If a potential client contacts you while doing your maximum projects, you can schedule it to attend as soon as you finish some pending.
Take a fair time for each project
All your clients are important and deserve attention, we must respect the needs of each project; Some may require more details, but we won’t put aside the shortest.
BE GRATEFUL TO YOUR CLIENTS
A project always, without exception, gives us a lesson. It may be how to treat different persons, improve abilities, learn some techniques, solve problems, etcetera. Thank your client for having brought you a new experience and the trust he placed in you.
SHare YOUR WORK AND YOUR PROCESS
There will always be someone who will judge you, but you must be true to yourself and believe in yourself, every process implies experience and leads to growth. Also, by sharing your work, you create a portfolio that attracts potential customers.
